Growing up, I was very active, spending 10 years in gymnastics, 6 years playing softball, and 5 years in ringette. However, in my late teens, I stopped all these activities and led a rather unhealthy life, as I was never focused on or educated about nutrition.
Fast forward to adulthood, and my sister introduced me to CrossFit. I participated in it on and off, driven by my competitive nature but not enough to make significant changes.
Things shifted when I had the opportunity to advance my career with a move to another province. With no other influences, I found a new path through CrossFit and its community. Setting big goals for myself, I realized I needed to get my body in better shape, which led me to focus on nutrition.
Seeing how much my life improved with dietary changes, I became hooked. I enrolled in the Precision Nutrition course and started my journey to create my own company, ‘Empower Life,’ to help others succeed with nutrition just as I had.
During the pandemic, I decided to close Empower Life as we had recently bought Forge in August 2019, and I was spread too thin. After finding our footing during the pandemic, we decided to have a baby. My goal was to restart my nutrition business after having the baby, leading to resurgence of Empower Life. I am beyond excited to be back working with people on their nutrition habits and overall health while also coaching and managing Forge. I am grateful for the opportunity to do what I love.
Life is not perfect, and striving for perfection can leave you feeling unhappy no matter what you achieve. Setting attainable goals will keep you moving upwards.
